Open Source Awards Highlight Well Known Names and New Innovative SoftwareMOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, Jul 28, 2008 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX News Network) -- SourceForge, Inc. (NASDAQ: LNUX), the leader in community-driven
content and media, announced the winners of its third annual
Community Choice Awards in Portland, OR, during an evening
celebration held at the OSCON 2008 conference.
The awards recognize the open source community's most innovative
projects through an open nomination and voting process, culminated in
the colorful, off-beat party hosted by SourceForge at the Jupiter
Hotel for all community members, media and OSCON attendees.
Attendees to the celebration received gifts from ThinkGeek and the
Linux Foundation, and were provided with a unique opportunity to get a
permanent geek-related tattoo from Colorbomb Studio's artists, paid
for by SourceForge.
"It's important to take a step back and applaud everyone's hard
work," said Ross Turk, SourceForge.net Community Manager. "I think
that the community at large agrees with this sentiment because
interest in these awards increases every year. The program was
created to provide the community with a voice; there's no doubt that
the community has spoken tonight."
As in previous years, the community-driven awards were free from any
editorial constraint, celebrating the community spirit at the core of
the open source software movement. And for the first time, all open
source projects were eligible for nomination, paving the way for wins
by OpenOffice.org and several other projects hosted outside of
SourceForge.net. In all, this year's voting saw a record number of
participants, casting over 150,000 votes.
The community chose winners in 12 categories:
-- Best Project: OpenOffice.org
-- Best Project for the Enterprise: OpenOffice.org
-- Best Project for Educators: OpenOffice.org
-- Most Likely to Be the Next $1B Acquisition: phpMyAdmin
